Solinst Model
2001
Reelogger
The Reelogger is a
water level and/or multiparameter datalogging system that introduces
many new concepts ideal for field use by hydrogeologists, hydrologists
and anyone wishing to monitor water automatically.
Operating Principles
The Model 2001
system uses narrow diameter, 'smart' parameter probe(s) connected
in-line, or on a ring-mount manifold, to 2-conductor cable. Portable
reel units may be fitted with Solinst flat tape, permanently marked
each 1/100 ft or millimeter. Dedicated units may use inexpensive
coaxial cable. The logger, barometer and a thermistor are housed in
the reel or surface housing.
An LCD display with
three control buttons allows instant viewing of readings, addition,
deletion and calibration of probes, starting and stopping of logging, and
much more, without any additional equipment. Infra-red, digital
communication allows downloading and programming without use of cables.
Reeloggers have a very
small but powerful datalogger which operates on standard 9V or AA
batteries, and can store up to 100,000 readings in non-volatile memory.
The Reelogger software
is very comprehensive and simple to operate on any Windows95 or later
system. Linear or logarithmic logging is easy to setup. Programming and
data download are rapid and digital. The software has extensive viewing
and graphing capabilities.

Interchangeable Probes

The
modular Reelogger system can operate up to 8 separate sensors,
allowing the user a choice of which to purchase or use for any
particular application.
All sensors
have been designed for superior accuracy, durability, long-term stability
, ease of use, and minimum calibration requirements. All probes are
temperature compensated and the temperature readings from the #1 probes in
line are also recorded. A temperature compensated barometer, housed in the
reel, is used to compensate pressure measurements for atmospheric
pressure. This eliminates the need for vented cable.
Simple
Water Level Indicator
A simple
water level indicator is incorporated into the probe/tape connector,
permanently attached to the cable
Water
Pressure Probe
The Solinst
pressure sensor uses vibrating wire technology, as it is very accurate,
rugged and stable over the long term.
Conductivity Probe
The Solinst
conductivity sensor is a new highly accurate, very stable, 5-terminal
cell. It has 4 platinum electrodes within the sensing cavity and the
stainless steel body acts as the 5th terminal to greatly reduce the
effects of external water, giving consistent readings regardless of well
size or low flow conditions.
pH Probe
The pH
sensor utilizes a patented reference cell which provides greater than 3
months of continuous accuracy and reliability before recharging.
Recharging is very simple and can be easily performed in the field.
Temperature Sensors
The
temperature reading displayed by the logger is the temperature output from
the #1 probe in line. Each probe has its own temperature sensor for
compensation purposes.

The Logger
The small powerful
datalogger operates for extended periods of time on standard 9V batteries,
powering all the probes through the batteries. The logger can log
from 1 to 8 sensors, plus the built-in barometer and thermistor.

Software and Data Sampling
Solinst has gone to great lengths
to simplify the input screens for teh programming of Reeloggers. The
Windows 95 or later ReelPC software is very easy to use.
Linear sampling regimes can be
programmed using either the Onboard3-Button software, or the ReelPC
software. Multi-step sampling and logarithmic programming must be setup in
the ReelPC software and transmitted to the Reelogger. Up to 10
individually defined recording periods can be set up in one programming
session.

Memory
The
Reelogger stores up to 100,00 readings of time, barometer,
temperature and other parameters. The data is stored using RL
compression in 512 KB of non-volatile, flash memory, which
prevents loss of data if the batteries run down.
