Well Casing Depth
Indicator
Used for measuring the depth of steel casing in wells, the Model 501 allows
rapid and accurate identification of the depth at which the steel well
casing terminates. It is simple, reliable and easy to operate.
It can also be used to determine the total depth of a well. Because the
probe weighs 1.5 lbs. (0.68 kg) it is easy to sound the bottom of the
well.
It will operate in angled holes up to 60° from vertical.
Ideal for use
when:
- Hydrofracturing.
- Installing telescoping well screen.
- Measuring total well depth.
- Decommissioning abandoned wells.
- Confirming well construction (new and old wells).
Model
501 Operating Principles
The Well Casing Depth Indicator uses a unique but simple magnetic
switch device.
The switch device is housed inside a stainless steel probe 6.25"
long by 1.5" wide (16cm x 4cm). The probe is attached to marked tape and mounted on a well-balanced winding and storage reel.
A battery, located in the hub of the storage reel, operates a buzzer as
the probe is being lowered down a steel cased well. At the moment the
probe passes out of the steel casing the buzzer abruptly ceases. The depth
is then read off the tape at the top of the well.
The magnetic switch and battery can be tested simply by tilting the
probe. The buzzer will sound if the switch is in the 'On' position.
A tape guide is provided which slots over the top of the well casing,
to protect the tape from damage on the edge of ragged or sharp well
casing.

The Well Casing Depth Indicator is mounted on
Solinst flat tape.
Flat-Tape
The flexible polyethylene, flat tape gives especially accurate
readings, as the permanent, heat embossed markings are at close intervals.
The stranded stainless steel conductors prevent stretch and provide
strength to support the heavy probe. Markings are embossed on the tape and
are available in your choice of two scales.

Flat
Tape Length Options
All flat tape models of the Well Casing Depth Indicator are fitted onto
Solinst storage and winding reels. (For different sizes see illustration
on Model 101 Water Level Meter data sheet.) Shorter round cable models are
also fitted to the Solinst reels. Longer models will be fitted to
customized reels. Standard lengths are shown below, and other lengths can
be customized, if desired.

Carrying Bag
A carrying bag with shoulder strap is available in
2 sizes to fit the
Solinst reels. The sturdy padded nylon bags have a vent in the base to
allow moisture to dissipate. They provide protection during transport as
well as handling convenience.
