Description

The Solinst Integra Bladder Pump allows consistent, high quality samples in all types of applications. It offers excellent performance and reliability. It is designed to meet the most rigorous US EPA standards for groundwater monitoring.

The Teflon bladder ensures that drive air or gas does not contact the sample, thus avoiding degassing or contamination of the sample. Integra Pumps are rugged and long lasting. The Teflon bladder has a 10 year warranty. Both bladders and intake filters are easily replaced in the field in just a few minutes.

Solinst offers 1.66” diameter (42mm) Integra Pumps in 316 stainless steel or PVC, in 2ft. and 4ft. lengths (610mm and 1220mm). Stainless steel Integra pumps are ideal for low flow sampling or regular flow sampling from lift depths up to 500 ft. (150m) below grade. The 1.66” PVC Integra operates up to 100 ft. (30m) below grade and the 1” (25mm) stainless steel Integra operates to depths of 250ft. (80m).

Benefits:

  • High Quality Samples: - Consistently accurate samples with excellent VOC sample integrity.

  • Simplicity:- The controller, air compressor and flow-through cell can be easily transported by one person to any site. Hookup to the pump is by quick-connect fittings. Low purge volumes ensure rapid sampling.

  • Cost Savings:- Reduced need for repeat sampling and shorter time required for each sampling round.

  • Bladder Life:- Guaranteed for 10 years.

Low Flow Purging & Sampling

The Solinst Integra Bladder Pump can be regulated to provide continuous output to 100 ml/min. or less, using the Solinst Model #466 Electronic Pump Control Unit. Low flow sampling offers excellent quality samples by reducing turbulence. It also reduces purge volumes, and thus sampling time and disposal costs.

A Flow-Through Cell System allows the analysis of purge water, in-line, as it flows, so that sampling can begin as soon as the readings stabilize. This improves sample quality, minimizes purge water and reduces disposal costs.

Packers are also available to further reduce purge volumes and disposal costs, and to speed sampling times.

Features

  • Stainless Steel or Low Cost PVC in 1.66”Ø (42mm) or 1”Ø (25mm) in stainless steel.

  • Non-Vertical Applications: - operates effectively at almost any angle and can be placed under landfills, tailings, storage tanks or contaminant plumes.

  • Zero-Submergence Capability: - allows sampling from low-yield wells and complete emptying of well.

  • Leachate/Product Pumping: - pneumatic drive pumps are well suited for pumping contaminant liquids. Strong solvents and corrosive chemicals are easily and economically pumped.

  • Survives Dry Pumping, Dirty Air and Sand: - and the filter prevents problems with high solids content fluids.

Integra Bladder Pump

Integras are manufactured from 316 stainless steel and have Teflon* check balls and a Teflon bladder. This is the ideal sampling pump for most types of municipal, industrial and general environmental applications, especially where VOC analysis of the sample is important.

For metals analysis and situations with highly corrosive liquids, the PVC Integra is more suitable. It has a Teflon bladder and check balls and a porous polyethylene screen. The low cost of the PVC pump also makes this a perfect choice for situations where there is a limited budget, but dedicated bladder pumps would be preferred.

The pump body of the standard Integra is a convenient 1.66" dia.(42 mm) and comes in standard lengths of 2 ft. and 4 ft. (610 mm and 1220 mm).

A 1” (25mm) bladder pump is also available for narrower and/or deeper applications and for use in the Waterloo Multilevel System.

Dedicated Systems

With dedicated Integra Bladder Pumps there is the assurance that there is no air/water contact during sampling, and the confidence that no cross-contamination will occur from the use of portable equipment.

For long term monitoring it is always best to dedicate Integra Pumps. This avoids cross-contamination and reduces sampling time, and thus the ongoing costs of field time are also reduced.

Integra well caps are designed for ease of use. The vented PVC caps have a quick-connect attachment for the controller unit/air supply and a push-fit tubing connector for the sample line. Each cap comes with a 3 ft. (0.9m) discharge line which is easily replaced, as required.
For water level monitoring there is an access hole to fit a Solinst Model 101 Water Level Meter, or the size of the access hole can be specified. An eyebolt is provided for a pump support cable or for suspension of a Solinst Levelogger (see Data Sheet #3001) or other device.

The caps slip easily onto 2” wells. Adaptors to fit 4” or other well sizes are also available. The cap seals in place with an o-ring, and comes with a wire connected protective cover.

Pump Controllers

Electronic

The electronic controller uses 8 AA batteries that provide up to 30 hours of continuous use. It is fully automatic with preset sample modes to give a variety of useful drive and vent cycles. These can be further adjusted manually to optimize the flow. It allows faster purge rates and precise low flow, which ensures a representative sample at100 ml/min or less when sampling for VOCs. The standard #466 gives 160 psi and the 466HP offers 250 psi.

Manual

The Manual Controller is fully pneumatic with no batteries. It is ideal for those who wish to avoid batteries, or to have the most complete control over drive and vent cycles. The convenient boxes are rugged, dependable and suitable for all environments. Quick-connect fittings allow instant attachment to dedicated well caps or portable reel units and to the in-line dryer and compressor.

Oil-Less Air Compressor
The Solinst gasoline powered air compressor Model #468 allows high or low pumping rates, 4.3 CFM continuous duty, and 125 psi (863 kPa) operation. The low-maintenance, oil-less compressor does not introduce any hydrocarbons into the air stream and never requires lubrication. Filters are long lasting and easily replaceable.

The rugged cart-mounted units are well balanced and have space to mount the pump controller. Large pneumatic tires give easy transport over rough terrain. Skid mounted units are available, designed for easy installation or transport in trucks, vans or ATVs. Also available is the 12V compressor below.

Bladder Pump Operation

When an Integra Bladder Pump is lowered into a well the hydraulic pressure of the water allows formation water to enter the central Teflon chamber (the bladder) through the inlet filter. When gas or air pressure is applied to the drive line it circulates into the space around the bladder, causing it to collapse, and pushing the water up into the sample line. Check valves ensure that no water flows back down into the pump or the formation. When the gas/air pressure is vented (released) more formation water enters the bladder. When the pressure is reapplied, once again the fresh formation water is pushed up towards the surface. The pressure/vent cycles are repeated, providing a steady flow of water up the sample line, without any stripping of volatile gases from the sample. Turbidity is minimized due to the low flow rate and gentle pumping action. Thus a high quality VOC groundwater sample is obtained.

Higher Flow Rates

When large purge volumes are required, Solinst Integra Bladder Pumps can deliver higher flow rates than the 100 ml/min. recommended for low flow purge and sample methods. Alternatively a simple conversion kit can be used to quickly turn an Integra Bladder Pump into a Solinst Double Valve Pump (DVP). These pneumatic drive DVPs have higher flow rates than bladder pumps. Flow rates vary with depth of pump below surface, depth below water level, size of drive and sample tubing, drive and vent cycle times, gas pressure applied, aquifer recharge, and size of pump body.
Flow rates of the Integra Bladder Pump and the DVP compare favourably with published data for similar types and sizes of pumps, under similar conditions, for example: 1.66" x 2' (42 mm x 610 mm) Bladder Pump at 100 psi, with 1/4" OD drive line and 3/8" OD sample line; 50' (15 m) below grade with 25’ (7.5m) below water level gives 1.5 litres/min.
